FULL STATEMENT: on why Ilyes Mzoughi was sacked

Goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi  breaks the silence on what happened at Morocco

"I received a call from someone who asked me to watch a video clip via WhatsApp and threatened to publish it if I didn’t send him 20 thousand dollars (R325,000). I absolutely refused to submit to his blackmail because the video is fabricated, and you can submit the clip to digital forensics to verify that. I am married and have sons, and I absolutely cannot commit such shameful acts. Since that blackmail incident, I have had several experiences in Tunisia and South Africa without any problems, and I have never caused any issue throughout my coaching career, which has lasted about 15 years.

"However, today I was surprised by the re-publication of this clip by one of the agents in an attempt to blackmail me again and cut off my livelihood, which caused me great psychological distress. So I decided to submit my resignation to the board of Raja Club Athletic to protect the image of this great club, which has given me great support from its fans since I joined. I take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to the club’s board for their professionalism and warm welcome," he continued.

"Now I have left the team, but what I want is for my image to remain clean in the eyes of Raja fans. Once again, I tell them the video clip is fabricated and they can verify that. Also, the timing of the video’s release immediately after (Raja goalkeeper Yassine) Zoubeir’s brilliant performance against Hassania Agadir confirms that it was planned. Just as I have been psychologically destroyed, I pray to God Almighty to destroy whoever was behind the fabrication and re-publication of the clip.”
