South African Football Association has moved to shut down reports claiming Hugo Broos has been offered a new contract, insisting that the Bafana Bafana head coach remains on his existing deal until 2026.
The clarification comes after respected media outlets, including, reported that Broos had been tabled a one-year extension with his current contract set to expire this month.
Reports are false and misleading"
In a statement released on Tuesday, SAFA said it was concerned by the rumours circulating in the media.
"SAFA has learnt with concern of reports and rumours being circulated by respected media houses alleging that Bafana Bafana Head Coach Hugo Broos has been offered or issued with a one-year contract extension," the association said.
"SAFA wishes to categorically state that these reports are false, unfounded and misleading."
Broos contracted until July 2026
SAFA went on to set the record straight regarding the Belgian’s future.
"To set the record straight, SAFA has not issued any contract to any coach in respect of the Bafana Bafana head coach position. Coach Hugo Broos remains under contract with SAFA until the end of July 2026, in accordance with his existing agreement," the statement read.
SAFA’s statement confirms there will be no change in the technical bench for now,
