Sundowns Hit By Double Injury Blow: Sales And Cupido Out Until November, Confirms Cardoso
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that Arthur Sales and Keanu Cupido will be sidelined for months, with both players now facing long-term recoveries.
The Brazilians will have to cope without two key squad members as the PSL season and CAF competitions get into full swing.
"Optimistic For End Of August, Reality Is November"
Speaking on the injury situation, Cardoso gave a frank update.
“We also have Arthur Sales, unfortunately like Keanu Cupido, will be a long-term situation,” said Cardoso.
“I think that we are being very optimistic when we speak that they are going to be back in the end of August, they will be back in the end of maybe November.”
Sales Undergoes Double Surgery
Cardoso revealed the extent of Sales’ problems.
“Arthur made a double surgery, shoulder and pubis and then the shoulder he had to be submitted because he had a big issue there.”
The Brazilian striker arrived at Sundowns with high hopes but has struggled with fitness since joining.
Cupido's Surgery After Champions League Final
For Cupido, the defender tried to play through the pain.
“Keanu unfortunately we tried conservative treatment on him, he played the Champions League final, and he was so important but then he had to make a surgery and that surgery will take a long time to recover from.”
Cupido was a key figure in Sundowns’ run to the CAF Champions League final last season.
No Rush On Recovery
Cardoso says the club will not put pressure on the pair.
“So, let’s not really put pressure on their recovery, it’s a thing for not long, but medium term.”
With both Sales and Cupido now ruled out until potentially November, Sundowns will have to rely on their depth as they chase more silverware on 3 fronts.
